International Centre for Life, Newcastle Upon Tyne

Would you like to join a company that’s unlike anywhere else in the world? The International Centre for Life (or ‘Life’ as we’re known) is a pioneering science village in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne. We are proudly independent, entrepreneurial and quirky.

Life Meetings and Events (M&E) is a commercial part of the company that helps raise money so we can deliver our charitable aims. M&E is known for its unique spaces that are perfect for a range of events from meetings and conferences to weddings and other celebrations.  Where else could you get married in a planetarium or enjoy pre-dinner drinks in a brain exhibition?

We have an excellent reputation for our fabulous food and brilliant staff and are always interested in hearing from people with the talent, drive and skills to help us continue to deliver excellent customer service.

We have an excellent opportunity for a Chef to join our busy catering team.  As someone who is enthusiastic and keen to progress, you will have gained experience in a similar catering environment and will enjoy producing work of a high standard. Duties at Life will include preparation of food for all catering outlets and events at Life including two on-site cafes, conferences, private dining and weddings.

Working hours generally follow a straight shift pattern, allowing for a greater work/life balance. You will get the opportunity to show off your creativity and originality with food tailored to events and it is vital that you have a good awareness of the latest food and service trends and be able to adapt these to ensure the offer remains innovative and contemporary.

As an experienced chef, you will be able to assist junior staff in producing a consistent product, both in the kitchen and front of house areas and be capable of maintaining high standards of customer care, health and safety and food hygiene legislation. A relevant catering qualification and food hygiene certificate are essential.

The successful candidate must have food hygiene training and an understanding of Health and Safety. Chef whites are provided and laundered.

Please note successful applicants will be subject to a DBS check. Details of our DBS policy are available on request.
